Title

Consider request for involuntary demolitions at Midtown Apartments.

Strategic Goal:  Quality of Life - make sure the City is well maintained.

Body

Inspections have been conducted at six of the 12 buildings at the Midtown Apartments, located on Rauch and Wilhurst streets in the Hagins/Fewell Neighborhood. Four of the buildings have been condemned, two have been deemed uninhabitable. The owners have been notified and have no plans to repair the buildings, and foreclosure is imminent. There are no tenants in these buildings. Squatters and vandals are contributing to the deterioration of the buildings through theft, damage and criminal activity.

We are requesting involuntary demolition for the first three buildings - 542 Rauch and 334 and 342 Wilhurst. Asbestos abatement will be conducted prior to demolition and if necessary, lead abatement. Testing for each has been completed and we are awaiting a lead report.

The second set of buildings would be demolished at a later date. Inspections of the final six buildings will be conducted at 90-day intervals.
