Hold Public Hearing to update from the 2003 International Existing Building Code and the 2003 International Property Maintenance Code to the 2006 versions.

The South Carolina Building Codes Council is charged with adopting the codes that will be used to regulate construction within the state. When the State adopts the major codes (electrical, mechanical, building, etc,) they also provide for local jurisdictions to adopt permissive codes such as the International Property Maintenance Code and The International Existing Building Code, which we have previously adopted. A condition of adopting the permissive codes is that they be updated when the State adopts a newer version. The 2006 versions are the codes currently adopted by the State. This ordinance is to update from the 2003 International Existing Building Code and the 2003 International Property Maintenance Code to the 2006 versions.
In addition to adopting the newer codes, the ordinance will eliminate the “Housing” section of our Municipal Code since the provisions of this section are included in the International Property Maintenance Code.
A public hearing is required prior to adoption of this ordinance.
